There was a significant anomaly on the BOM Australian National radar today.
You see them from time to time as different shapes, patterns and colors.
Thought l would start a post dedicated to this phenomena.
Generally these anomalies are caused by forms of interference .

Here is a snap taken from the national radar on

  1. Strange ‘S’-shaped radar phenomenon caused by Defence exercise
    Thursday February 13, 2014

A strange S-shaped phenomenon which appeared on the weather bureau radar off the West Australian coast was caused by a military exercise, the Department of Defence has confirmed.

The shape was spotted on the weather bureau’s radar map on Wednesday about 30 kilometres west off Rottnest Island.

The bureau had ruled out the phenomenon being caused by clouds.

A spokesman for the Department of Defence said in a statement today the exercise was a regular training activity involving ships and aircraft designed to prepare a Navy warship for an operational deployment.

“The environmental conditions over the West Australian coast at the time of the activity provided a unique opportunity for this routine activity to be visible on the weather radar display,” he said.

    “This exercise is ongoing.”

The weather bureau’s Neil Bennett said yesterday the bureau did sometimes see shapes form on the weather radar when cloud produced a rain echo.

But nothing like the distinctive “S” shape from yesterday.

“The radar that we use are there for the detection of precipitation, it’s basically just a beam going out and hitting the rain droplets or ice particles from hail,” he said.

“Sometimes the beam itself rather than going straight it gets bent back to earth and you start to pick up reflections from the ocean, rather than rain droplets.”

The WA Weather Group yesterday seized on the photo and retweeted it to their followers.

“Nice that our pet has avoided the shark baits. Her name is Susan & she likes to eat plankton,” the group tweeted.

“And I, for one, welcome our new giant sea serpent overlords,” Perth Sunrise Prints tweeted.

Whilst watching the approach of INVEST 96 / cyclone developing off the coast of cairns , l noticed this radar anomaly start about 8pm AEST

The low is curently over WILLIS island and is expected to approach the Qld coastline currently

  3. Officially, Redstone Arsenal disclosed that it was a military test using RR-188 military chaff,” Havin said, referring to aircraft used to spread a cloud of aluminum-coated silica in the case of RR-188.

The cloud can confuse radar-guided missiles, for instance, so they miss their targets.

“My goal was just to show in greater detail how the weather that day was causing things to look the way they did with the chaff release.” – source: livescience.com

  4. Inside of those big white golf ball looking antennas that BOM uses is a parabolic dish. Back in the 70’s they transmitted power wirelessly using a parabolic dish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeo1UXXPcxY
BOM calls those straight lines you see on their radar Searchlight mode . I’d like to know is searchlight mode power beaming mode.
Can the BOM radar grid influence precipitation like ATLANT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWXjbQV3alY
I contacted the Grantham inquiry to see if it was running in the trial area behind Toowoomba. A copy of my email .
Hi my name is John, my inquiry is whether this was responsible for Toowoomba and Brisbane’s 2010/11 floods .

I was going to go into more detail but Jay Anderson said it all in his/her email . I did get a reply that said it was not brought up in the inquiry. In the ATLANT trial they stated they got up to 30% more rain out of natural rain events .

  5. are you referring to haarp experiments? we are led to believe these radar anomalies are are defence signal interference

  6. Re Defence signal interference .
On 7 October 2008, Qantas Flight 72 made an emergency landing at Learmonth airport near the town of Exmouth, Western Australia following an inflight accident featuring a pair of sudden uncommanded pitch-down manoeuvres that resulted in serious injuries to many of the occupants.
On 27 December 2008, another aircraft, Qantas Flight 71, also had a malfunction in its ADIRU. The incident again fuelled media speculation regarding the significance of the Harold E. Holt facility,

Combine the Harold Holt facility with Pine Gap ?
Pine Gap is a secretive facility nearly 20km south-west of Alice Springs which has been there since 1970. Run by both Australia and the United States, its official name is the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap, even though our government really hates to admit it exists.
